 The fields where Monument Road meets Quartermaster Drive prove productive for a wide range of species.
The small marsh on both sides of the road sometimes hosts Virginia Rails and Marsh Wren as well as more regularly seen birds such as Common Yellowthroat and Red-winged Blackbird. The wet fields occasionally attract Canada Geese, Mallards and wigeon. Savannah Sparrows buzz from the fields and Bald Eagles nest to the east.
Swallows hawk for insects and light on the telephone lines. The local flock may include Cliff Swallows in some years. The brush attracts many warblers, vireos and sparrow species depending on the season.
